Capable of working with PLA filament, the Mini is not only a great learning tool, but also a formidable 3D printer for consistency and superb, 200 micron surface quality.

The Makerbot Replicator Mini boasts a rigid polycarbonate-ABS frame that’s reinforced with powder coated steel. Taking up less than one square foot in area, the Mini will fit on any compact desk or workstation. It features a .4 mm diameter brass nozzle that accommodates 1.75mm PLA filament. The solid, injection molded build surface maintains vibrational stability, providing smooth transition along its steel Z-axis rod between layers.

While its 3.9” x 3.9” x 4.9” build volume may seem small, the Mini is engineered for quality 3D prints over size. It uses Makerbot’s proprietary Smart Extruder technology; a single extruder that notifies the user when it detects an absence of filament. The printer will pause its work, notify the user remotely, and will only continue printing once the problem is resolved. The Mini features acrylic enclosures that help to prevent temperature changes or drafts while allowing the user full view of the print’s progress. Thanks to high-end NEMA stepper motors, the extruder can move in 1.8˚ step angles with 1/16th micro-stepping motion; resulting in smooth filament placement and uniform layer consistency.

The Makerbot Replicator Mini can accommodate either OEM or 3rd party PLA filament. The spool can be inserted in the top compartment or placed outside of the unit in conjunction with a custom 3D printed spool holder. Backed by Makerbot’s extensive line of PLA filaments, users can choose from either .2kg or 9kg spools. These filaments are made in the USA and extensively tested to be free from heavy metals, contaminants, phthalates, and BPA. Choose from an array of standard or natural colors including “ocean blue”, “glow in the dark”, “neon”, and “army green”.

Additional Tech Specs

The Mini is a full-featured 3D printer that includes the same cloud-based connectivity capabilities as its bigger siblings. This gives users a fluid experience, dependable access to Makerbot’s Desktop software, Makerbot Mobile viewing, and 3D print sharing on Thingiverse.com. Applications are available for both iOS and Android devices; providing full monitoring and control using the Internet.

Makerbot Desktop is available for both Mac and PC systems. The Mini provides users with the ability to share, print, and manage their models online as well as store their 3D files in the cloud. Additionally, the on-board camera will take pictures of final prints and upload them in conjunction with the digital version of the model.
