About MakerBot Replicator (5th Gen)
Building on the success of the previous Makerbot Replicator, the new 5th generation model combines unmatched speed, reliability, and ease of use. The swappable extruder (smart extruder) is modular in design, allowing users to minimize downtime thanks to quick replacement between 3D prints. It can detect the absence of filament, pause 3D prints, and send warning notifications directly to your desktop or mobile phone. A 3.5” color LCD touchscreen provides easy access to utilities, settings, and 3D model views. Capable of PLA prints with 100 micron resolution, the Makerbot Replicator (5th generation) provides multiple connectivity options in order to streamline productivity via Wi-Fi, USB, and Ethernet integration. Using the on-board webcam, operators can also monitor their print progress in real-time while away from the unit (A great feature for students & teachers).
The Makerbot Replicator (5th generation) design is built with polycarbonate ABS plastic and integrated with a powder-coated reinforced steel frame. The unit offers vibration-free print head motion thanks to updated controllers and a solid gantry design that helps to keep layer placement as consistent as possible. Sized perfectly for desktops or tables, the Replicator creates high-resolution, complex prototypes for either home or office environments. The Makerbot Replicator’s glass build surface is supported by a stable Z platform, allowing for smooth vertical positioning. The smart extruder has been rigorously tested for up to 160,000 hours without any loss of integrity to its internal components or sensor system.
Boasting a larger 9.9” x 7.8” x 5.9” build area than its predecessor, the Replicator’s swappable smart extruder whirls into action thanks to next generation NEMA motors with 1/16 micro-stepping precision. The extruder’s .4 mm nozzle diameter will accommodate both Makerbot OEM and third party filament. The onboard camera provides 320x240 resolution for easy viewing over the Internet. Coupled with assisted build plate leveling, users can achieve continuous workflow for multi-print projects. The Makerbot smart extruder system is swappable, intelligent, and modular; ideal for mission critical projects or for switching between unique filaments. The spool cartridge system has also been redesigned; ensuring smooth rotation and consistent feeding into the extruder assembly.
Makerbot’s 1.75 mm PLA is available in .2kg and .9kg spools as well as XL and XXL spool sizes for large volume prints. Choose PLA from third parties or select from Makerbot’s lineup of vibrant colors and specialty filaments. Makerbot offers translucent, monochromatic, neon, glow in the dark, and unique natural colors such as “army green”, “ocean blue”, and “peach”. While spools can be loaded directly into the Replicator’s rear compartment, additional spool holders can be 3D printed for “outside of the box” loading and feeding. All Makerbot filaments are made in the USA and tested to the highest quality control standards possible; yielding good structural integrity and smooth surface quality.

The Replicator (5th generation) is designed around a cloud and app-enabled ecosystem that provides a diverse library of models, print tools, and a streamlined print experience. Users can access cloud-enabled 3D printing by connecting to applications such as Makerbot Desktop, Makerbot Mobile, and Thingiverse. Prints can also be easily monitored in real-time, shared with friends, stored in the cloud, and digitally photographed for upload using the onboard camera. With Makerbot Desktop, you can take advantage of either preconfigured or custom print settings that are specific to your object’s needs.
Using the 3.5” LCD screen and navigation knob, you can quickly access your model library while viewing 3D model previews of each object. Utilities, diagnostics, and build plate leveling are all managed through this interface; boasting clear and concise visual organization for the user.
